Help Us Raise $30,000 to Sustain Our Virtual Debate Programming!
WHY DEBATE MATTERS
From COVID-19, to the upcoming election, to criminal justice reform becoming increasingly urgent - it’s been a tumultuous year. What gives us hope: today’s students are engaged and ready to address these issues. And they're learning critical thinking, leadership, and advocacy skills in debate during this year's virtual season. We're continuing to deliver debate to Twin Cities schools during distance learning, but we need your help to do it.
WHAT YOU CAN DO
Help us raise $30,000 to ensure access to virtual debate programming for Twin Cities students! This year, we are combining our Mayors Challenge event with Give to the Max, so you have new ways to give:
WAYS TO GIVE
- Make a one-time gift: When you make a gift before November 16th to help us reach our 30k goal, you'll automatically receive a ticket for our 8th Annual Mayors Challenge, judged by Mayor Carter & Mayor Frey, with a welcome from Governor Walz and we'll honor our 2020 Champion of Change former Justice David Lillehaug.
- Join Advocates for Debate: If you are looking for a budget-conscious way to continue supporting debate, join our monthly giving program. When you make or increase your monthly gift, you'll receive tickets to the Mayors Challenge for yourself and a guest, as well as some extras perks for the event.
- Sponsor a virtual table at the Mayors Challenge: Connect your team with the debate community. Contact cramhe@augsburg.edu for more info - and your sponsorship will count toward our Give to the Max goal!

This year's Great Debate focuses on Health Equity, more important than ever to our community.
Meet the students competing in tomorrow's event!
Marshall Steele from Saint Paul Central High School and Chikamso Chijioke from Como Park Senior High School will take the Affirmative against Harriet Lindner from Washburn High School and Michael O'Neil from Roseville Area High School on the Negative.
Meet the VIPs attending tomorrow's event!
- Governor Tim Walz will be joined by First Lady Gwen Walz (who's a former speech & debate coach and our Advisory Board member) as special guests at this year's Virtual Mayors Challenge!
- Our 3rd annual Champion of Change is former Minnesota US Attorney & MN Supreme Court Justice David Lillehaug. The award will be presented by Charlie Nauen of Lockridge Grindal Nauen. (Here's your #TuesdayTrivia for the week: growing up, they were former debate partners at Sioux Falls Washington High School!)
- Saint Paul Mayor Melvin Carter & Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey will join us once again - as they did for our Great Education Debate and Great Immigration Debate - to head the judging panel! This year's topic: The Great Health Equity Debate.
- Additional VIP Panel members will include John Marshall from Xcel Energy and Senator Jeff Hayden. Our Master of Ceremonies will be Augsburg University BOR Chair, Matt Entenza!
We are looking forward to seeing you there!
