Professor Kevin Jones was a Vermont Law and Graduate School professor from 2010 – 2024; he was Director of the VLGS Institute for Energy and the Environment (IEE); he was professor of energy technology and policy at VLGS; and he founded the VLGS Energy Clinic and the VLGS Cuba Trip, a global sustainability field-study course.

At the IEE, Kevin also led the Smart Grid Project, and he was co-author of the book from Praeger, A Smarter, Greener Grid: Forging Environmental Progress through Smart Energy Policies and Technologies. Kevin was a Senior Fellow with the New Economy Law Center at Vermont Law School and a Lecturer in the University of Vermont's Sustainable Entrepreneurship MBA program.

Prior to coming to VLGS, Kevin served as the director of power market policy for the Long Island Power Authority (LIPA) and as the director of energy policy for the City of New York. Kevin’s career focus was to seek solutions to America's energy and environmental policy challenges.

Above all, Kevin considered his students, fellows, coworkers, and other VLGS faculty and alumni as part of his family. He mentored, guided, enlightened, respected, and learned from many. Then he assisted others with job hunting, to gain entrance to what was for many their first experience working in the energy sector. Kevin always made himself available and accessible.

He was a deeply caring and beloved teacher, mentor, partner, and friend.
