Chase was one month old when he was diagnosed with a rare cyanotic congenital heart defect known as Total Anomalous Pulmonary Venus Return (TAPVR). This condition prevents oxygenated blood from being circulated through the body.
It was during Chase’s one month check up that discovered something was wrong and was immediately sent to the hospital where he was eventually diagnosed with TAPVR. This is when we discovered he would need open-heart surgery to fix his heart. Within 3 days, Chase would undergo a 10-hour surgery.
While there were ups and downs like any procedure of this magnitude can have, overall, Chase came through the surgery like a champ. After 20 days in the hospital, he came home. The prognosis for Chase has always been very positive, but there are always complications that can arise in the future. Because of potential issues down the road, he will always have to see a cardiologist for evaluations and check-ups.
Dr. Pyevich and the University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital have kept Chase healthy and doing what he loves to do most. Our entire family is grateful to his Dr. and the hospital for the support and reassurance they provide to Chase and all our family. We are eternally grateful and want to support the Hospital and the children’s pediatric department in any way possible.
The Quad City Blues fundraiser is just a small way we can give back and hope our efforts can help in any way possible.
