Campbell's teams do far more than simply show up and race. Throughout the year, students take a concept from the drawing board to competition by designing, fabricating, building, testing, troubleshooting, and continuously improving their rover and remote-operation systems. Team members gain hands-on experience with engineering design, machining, fabrication, electronics, controls, construction, teamwork, project management, and problem-solving under real competition conditions.
HERT focuses on creating a human-powered rover capable of tackling demanding obstacles and mission challenges, while HERO develops remote-operation systems that require precision, reliability, and creative technical solutions. The teams test every component, system, and design decision with performance in mind—but safety is always the priority.
From the first design sketch to fabrication, assembly, testing, transportation, and competition-day operations, Campbell's teams work to build a strong safety culture into everything they do.
