In May, 1928, Msgr. Van Antwerp, Vicar General of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Detroit and pastor of Holy Rosary Church, invited the Congregation of St. Basil to assume leadership of his parish school on Harper Avenue. This grotto honors our patroness, the Blessed Virgin Mary, while celebrating the beginnings of Detroit Catholic Central High School and the enduring Basilian values of Goodness, Discipline, and Knowledge. The Grotto will stand as a sacred place of prayer, remembrance, gratitude, and reflection for generations of Shamrocks to come.

Through this meaningful tribute to Mary Alma Mater, donors will be able to to honor loved ones, profess their faith, and help create a lasting gift. The Grotto will be a spiritual sign of the union among the Basilian Fathers, alumni, parents, students, and all whose dedication have brought our great school’s vision to life since 1928.
