When is Stony Brook Giving Day?

Stony Brook Giving Day will take place on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, beginning at 12:00 AM Eastern Time and ending at 11:59 PM Eastern Time.

For donor flexibility, we have an Early Give period which runs from March 11-March 24 and the site will officially close at midnight on March 29.

What is Stony Brook Giving Day?

Stony Brook Giving Day is a 24-hour online celebration of philanthropy where alumni, students, faculty, staff, families and friends come together to support the areas of Stony Brook that matter most to them. Each year, thousands of Seawolves around the world join in to support scholarships, research, student life, healthcare innovation and programs that empower our community.

What makes my contribution on Giving Day special?

On March 25, your gift goes further than any other day of the year thanks to:

Your participation can help your favorite area claim bonus funding and rise on the donor leaderboard.

How do I make my gift on Giving Day?

The easiest and fastest way to give is online. The Giving Day page accepts major credit cards, digital wallets (such as Venmo, Apple Pay or Google Pay), and Donor‑Advised Funds (DAFs). Payment options will appear automatically at checkout based on your device.

If you experience any issues, call the Giving Day hotline at 631-632-4887 or email givingday@stonybrook.edu.

Can I mail in my gift?

If you prefer to give by mail, you may send your gift to:

Stony Brook Foundation
270 Administration Building
Stony Brook University
Stony Brook, NY 11794‑1188

Please make checks payable to “Stony Brook Foundation” and include “Giving Day” and your fund designation in the memo line.

While mailed gifts will not appear on the Giving Day website or count toward the online Giving Day totals or leaderboard activity, we greatly appreciate your support and it will still make a meaningful impact!

What are Matching & Challenge Gifts?

Matching and Challenge Gifts are special opportunities that add excitement and amplify impact. These include:

All matches and challenges are tracked live on the Giving Day website.

How do I decide where my gift goes?

You choose! Every donor can designate their gift to the school, program or fund that is most meaningful to them. Each area highlights priority funds so you can support what matters most to you.

Can I give to more than one area?

Absolutely. You can make multiple gifts to different areas, or split your donation among several designations.

Is there a minimum gift requirement?

Yes — the minimum donation is $5.

Is my gift tax‑deductible?

Yes. The Stony Brook Foundation is a registered 501(c)(3) charitable organization.  All gifts to the Foundation are tax deductible to the fullest extent of the law.  You should consult with your tax attorney/advisor concerning the deductibility of your gift.  The Foundation's federal tax identification number is 11-6077945.

Can I make my gift anonymously?

Yes. Simply select “Please do not display my name” in the online giving form.

Can I make a gift of stock?

Yes. If you would like to learn more about making gifts other than cash, such as stock, real estate, retirement funds, or life insurance please contact gift.planning@stonybrook.edu or call 631-632-4413.

Will my employer’s matching gift count toward Giving Day totals?

Employer matching gifts are always welcome, but because they are processed separately by your company, they do not appear on the Giving Day website and do not count toward Giving Day totals. However, they still make a meaningful impact for Stony Brook students and programs. You can search to see if your company will match your gift right on the giving form.

Who called me on the phone?
