Unmet financial need remains a significant barrier to degree completion for senior students across the nation. In recent years, this has been amplified by the significant and dynamic challenges brought about by the COVID public health and economic crisis.
In 2021, with the help of generous individual and foundation donors, Agnes Scott established the Senior Completion Grant Fund for full-time students who face financial hardship in their final year. This donor-funded initiative is not intended to replace or supplement existing financial aid, and students do not have to repay the funds awarded. Eligible seniors may request up to $5,000 to cover tuition and fees through an open application process. For students with a proven record of academic success, these small but meaningful one-time grants can make the difference between walking across the stage and leaving college with student debt but no degree.
The Senior Completion Grant Fund is an essential strategy in meeting the student success goals outlined in Agnes Scott’s strategic plan, Pathway to Success, and is driven by our commitment to providing every student with a transformational education that prepares them for success in their professional, civic, and personal lives. Since its inception, the Senior Completion Grant Fund has supported 63 seniors, enabling us to award over $200,000.
