What’s the goal?

This University-wide fundraising effort will benefit all schools, colleges, units and programs. The goal is to inspire 1,000 donors to Back The Yard with a gift of any size to invest in our current Howard University students as they become the leaders of tomorrow.

How can I inspire others with a challenge?

Our website allows you to create a challenge or match gift and encourage anyone (your classmates, others interested in your fund, current students, etc.) to make gifts – and make an even bigger impact! Once you are signed in on this site, you will be able to create a unique tracking link (via the share buttons) and you will be able to see in real-time how many donors and dollars have come in because of YOU!

Where can I find updates?

Right here on this site you can track progress, learn about the different challenges and see how many gifts you have inspired as a Back The Yard Challenge advocate! Most important, you’ll be able to see the collective impact of so many people giving at the same time!

Can anyone participate in the Back The Yard Homecoming Giving Challenge?

YES! We need our entire community to participate to have a successful day.

How can I make my gift to Back The Yard?

Is my payment secure?

Yes. All payments will be processed using a secure online giving form. The information collected during our Back the Yard Challenge will be used solely by Howard University.

Is there a minimum gift?

 Gifts of all sizes are welcome and appreciated; however, the minimum for online giving is $5.

Can I make a recurring gift?

Yes! You can set up a recurring gift during our Back The Yard Giving Challenge. Only your first payment will count towards a challenge or a match.

Do I have to support a specific fund for my gift to be counted?

Nope! We want you to support any area you’re passionate about. You can select the Impact Howard fund of your choice to support scholarships, research, the endowment or a specific school or college. Can’t decide? You may also donate to the area of greatest need through the University’s unrestricted Impact Howard Fund. 

What if I already made my annual gift this year?

Thank you for your generous support! We appreciate your commitment and encourage you to make another small gift during Homecoming Week to participate in the Back the Yard Giving Challenge. You can also encourage others to make their gift!

Is my gift tax-deductible?

Yes. You’ll receive a receipt for tax purposes immediately following your gift. Any questions about your receipt can be directed to the Division of Development and Alumni Relations at 202-238-2340.
