Being a member of the athletic program at Hanover has influenced my life drastically. Hanover Athletics is an impactful and exciting program to be a part of. Playing golf for Hanover has taught me patience, resilience, and resourcefulness. It has also allowed me to play a sport that I thoroughly enjoy as well as develop a great group of friends. I never would have thought college sports would have been this exciting before coming to Hanover, and I highly recommend to anyone to join the athletic program.

The memories I made as a member of the Hanover College cross country team are ones I will cherish forever. Obviously, I look back fondly on my individual accolades, but the best parts were the normal everyday practices with my teammates. I developed many of my closest friendships while putting in thousands of miles through the farm fields and neighborhoods of Hanover. Whether we were talking about classes, helping someone through a tough time, or having a nonsensical debate because we ran out of intelligent things to talk about miles before, we all knew we had each other’s backs and the same goals in mind. We didn’t always reach the goals we set as a team, but the journey towards those goals with my closest friends is something I would never give up.

When I think back about my years at Hanover, the brightest memories I have were those spent on the diamond with my teammates. The funding that we received from alumni and other supporters not only allowed us to take memorable trips as a team, but put ourselves in the best position to succeed on the field, and truly enhanced our journey. We can't thank those enough who have and will donate, for granting us an opportunity to have a fulfilling college baseball experience, and the memories that go along with it.

Hanover softball has shaped me into the person I want to be. This program has taught me the importance of unity, honesty, and respect. I have been blessed with coaches and teammates I can rely on during my time here and know that they will forever be there even when I graduate. This program pushes me to be better every single day and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

After being a swimmer for 15
years of my life, being a part of Hanover Swimming during my time at Hanover
has changed my life in the absolutely best way possible. From being able to
connect with my teammates by making memories, going on spontaneous adventures,
and pushing each other through tough practices and meets to learning necessary
life skills like time management of being a student and an athlete. It has not
only helped me grow as an athlete but as an individual and these lessons and
memories will be with me for the rest of my life.

Hanover Track and Field athletes are constantly pushing past their limits. They come out everyday with high energy whether it be competition or practice. In order to perform at the highest level. The team needs the best equipment, gear, and opportunities to showcase their skills. By giving back, you become apart of the process in helping Hanover Track and Field achieve success.

Hanover College Women's Lacrosse is the most supportive group of people and really gives you the feeling of belonging. I've never had a team like this one. We really are a family and here for each other no matter what."

Being a cheerleader at Hanover has by far been the best part of my college experience. The team has provided an enduring family that is there for every success pushing me to be the best version or myself, but also every hardship that comes with college and athleticism whether it is injury, heartbreak, or homesickness. I have never had so much fun and laughs with a group of amazing women. When I came to college, I was extremely shy and afraid to order my own food and now I call chants and perform in front of hundreds of people. The Hanover College cheerleading program lives out all the values and mission of Hanover preparing us to be life-ling learners, have a growth-mindset, and to be better citizens. The program has also allowed us to build a bridge between the college and the Jefferson County community, which I have grown to love, through the fun adventures we have had at the pumpkin patch, painting ornaments, or volunteering for events such as Girls on the Run or festivities in the community. It is an honor to be a part of something greater than yourself, something that will long outlive your college career and it is truly amazing to call myself a member of the Hanover College Cheerleading program.

Donations to our program go towards things like the upkeep of Zeddies Tennis Center, where we hold practices and host matches, covering hotel and gas expenses when we travel, and purchasing things like uniforms, string, grips, tennis balls, etc. It also makes things like a winter break trip possible, where we get to play teams from all over the country while having fun and making memories as a team. Some of my fondest college memories were made while competing with my team both at home and on the winter break trip, which wouldn’t have been possible without the donations our program receives. HCWT greatly appreciates our donors and thanks them for their contributions.

Hanover College Men’s Soccer may be best known for its continued success, winning records, and consistent NCAA tournament appearances. Although these are amazing and memorable accomplishments, I can confidently say these are not the experiences that HCMS players use to define their time in the program. It is something that my past teammates and I talk about often. Whether it be off-season workouts at the break of dawn, clearing snow off of the turf using lawn chairs for another team, or even tough conversations with Coach Wilco that challenged our ways of thinking; these are the memories that we revisit on a daily basis. I know the initial thought would be “how do these memories compare to the excitement of winning a championship?” The reality is, these experiences were difficult and uncomfortable, but this is truly what the HCMS culture has been built around.
“Become comfortable being uncomfortable”
Classes are difficult?...“Become comfortable being uncomfortable”
Having trouble balancing athletics with college life?...“Become comfortable being uncomfortable”
Not wanting to spend your offseason working out?...“Become comfortable being uncomfortable”
I can go on for days about the lessons, support, and experiences that Hanover Men’s Soccer has provided its hundreds of past players, but I think this is the best way to briefly explain the power of this program.
It has taught years worth of graduates how to “become comfortable being uncomfortable,” and in the real world, this has proven to be one of the most powerful tools an individual can possess.

The athletic training staff at Hanover has provided me with a new outlook on the importance of caring for my body and health. The training staff here at Hanover is more like a family, providing a nurturing environment that pushes for athletic dominance, as well as providing dedicated and effective teaching to help us all reach our individual athletic goals. I appreciate and extend a thank you to all our Athletic Trainers, not only for helping me through injuries and teaching me new skills, but for laughing and smiling with me through the whole process.
Scott M. Zehnder, Class of '24
Men's Soccer Athlete
To me, athletic training gave me the ability to continue to play the sport I love. It helped me feel better when I was hurting; and, the exercises and stretches helped me to become strong in order to prevent future problems. As a graduate without access to a great athletic training staff to help me now, it is clear how athletic training is extremely beneficial for an overall better well-being.
