Michael "Mike" O'Brien, fondly called "O'B," was born in San Francisco, California, on October 23, 1952. He grew up in Marin County, attending Marin Catholic High School, where he excelled in both football and baseball. His athletic talent and leadership skills were apparent from an early age, laying the groundwork for a life marked by passion, dedication, and friendship.

Mike's journey continued at Saint Mary's College in Moraga, California, where he immersed himself in the vibrant campus life. There, he discovered his passion for rugby by joining the Gaels and forming lasting bonds. His teammates remember him not only for his athletic abilities but also for his infectious energy and unwavering commitment to both the sport and his fellow players. These relationships extended beyond the rugby field, becoming the foundation of his personal and professional life.

Besides athletics, Mike was a dedicated student who fully embraced the college's liberal arts education.
