When does the Souper Bowl of Giving campaign take place?
This campaign will begin on February 1st and end on February 10th, the day after the Super Bowl football game.

What is the goal of the Souper Bowl of Caring campaign?
Our fundraising goal is to raise $25,000, half the average cost of stocking our essential food and hygiene products for a semester. The CFP is participating in the Souper Bowl of Caring campaign to raise funds and awareness for food insecurity efforts across Grounds.

How will my gift be used?
Gifts donated to the CFP will be used to fund operations and purchase essential food and hygiene products. We are grateful for any amount you donate.

• $5 for about 20 peanut butter and jelly sandwiches
• $10 for 10 bags of frozen broccoli
• $20 for 10 dozen eggs
• $35 for 60 containers of quick oats
• $75 for 56 pounds of apples and oranges
• $100 for 24 pounds of frozen chicken breasts
• $200 for one month of hygiene items such as toothbrushes, toothpaste, mouthwash, deodorant, razors, shaving cream, and menstrual products
• $350 for one Costco shopping trip, which stocks the pantry with bulk snacks and canned goods
• $500 for one Walmart shopping trip, which stocks the pantry with perishable foods like frozen produce, meats, and dairy products (milk, cheese, yogurt)
• $5,000 for roughly one month of food

Is food insecurity really a problem college students are facing?
Yes.

At the University of Virginia:  In the 2024 New Student Survey conducted by Orientation & Transition Programs, 38.9% of students indicated concern about food insecurity as they matriculated at the University of Virginia. This statistic is on par with what we have seen over the last few years, with 41.2% of incoming students in 2023 and 40% of incoming students in 2022 indicating the same concerns.

In the Commonwealth of Virginia:  According to a report published by the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia in November 2024:

"When asked for an estimate of the percentage of their students who experienced food insecurity in the most recent semester, 59% [of institutions surveyed] provided an estimate between 25% and 49%, and 32% provided an estimate between 1% and 24%."

What is the purpose of the Souper Bowl of Giving campaign?
