Broadcasting continuously since 1941, Bowdoin’s WBOR radio station has been an important program for students, faculty, staff, and community members. Many alumni who have found success in the entertainment and broadcasting industry got their start through WBOR—Cynthia McFadden ’78, Andy Serwer ’81, Katie Benner ’99, Matt Roberts ’93, Hari Kondabolu ’04, and Evan Gershkovich ’14, to name a few.

While WBOR has had several homes during its more than eighty-year history, the station has been housed in the basement of Dudley Coe since 1995. In spring 2025, WBOR will find its new home in Coles Tower at the former site of the Bowdoin Cable Network. The new space offers complete ADA accessibility, more than one window (!), and greater centrality on campus and proximity to other creative spaces like the Craft Center, Maker Space, and Edwards Arts Center.

The key elements of the move and renovation are supported by the College’s operating budget, however, there is a wish list of items that would make the studio more complete—specifically sound, engineering, and production equipment and studio outfitting materials like upgraded furniture and lighting.
