Alternative Break Program Trips
Due to a great amount of participation and successful trips in the past, the Alternative Break Program is growing and site coordinators want to give more DSF, thedream.us, CAMP, ISP, and Reisher scholars a chance to participate by adding more than one trip and out-of-state trips! Your support would give students a chance to focus on societal hardships, environmental and community development issues. This year, the Alternative Break Program will make an impact on our community in the following locations:

Best Friend Sanctuary, Kanab, Utah The animals love to welcome groups and our staff is delighted to help design a trip that will be hands-on and fulfilling for whom the students, providing experiences specifically tailored for your group. ABP will balance activities between service projects, reflect on issues that impact animals.

Summer Trips Cheyenne River Youth Project, South Dakota The Cheyenne River Youth Project gives children and teens the opportunities and tools they need for a future in which they do more than survive—they thrive. Cheyenne River Youth Project is building young people’s capacity to achieve and serve as leaders and culture bearers for the Lakota Nation. In the past, we have held workshops for kids, played games, helped with their community garden, and helped fundraise. This is a trip through which students will learn about different aspects of connecting with children who suffer homelessness, poverty, hunger relief, and other hardships within the Cheyenne River community.

La Puente - Alamosa, Colorado La Puente is a local, non-profit organization, serving Colorado San Luis Valley by providing food, shelter, and advocacy for the homeless. In the past, we have worked with the P.A.L.S program, (Positive Actions Lead to Success), a wonderful program designed to help children who are struggling with a variety of life challenges, including abuse and neglect.  With PALS, we have tutored the children, made arts and crafts, as well as taken them to a museum as "big buddies."
