When does Hoos Giving take place?

This year (2021) Hoos Giving will begin at 8:00 a.m. (EST) on May 17 and conclude at 12:00 p.m. (EST) on May 18.

What is the purpose of Hoos Giving? 

Hoos Giving was created to provide supplemental support to the Virginia Athletics Department and our 27 varsity teams, including scholarship, operational, and academic affairs support.

What are the goals of Hoos Giving?

Our goal is to raise $250,000 for our 27 varsity programs from the support of 500 or more donors and fans!

How do I win one of the 10 hours of giveaway prizes?

10 of our programs combined have won the 28 total NCAA team national championships for Virginia Athletics. These 10 programs include: Men’s Lacrosse, Women’s Lacrosse, Boxing, Rowing, Men’s Tennis, Women’s Cross Country, Men’s Soccer, Baseball, Men’s Basketball, and Women’s Swimming & Diving.

During 10 of the 28 hours of Hoos Giving, we will feature each of these 10 programs on our social media channels, with the opportunity to win a special giveaway from each sport during their hour-long celebration. To enter to win for a particular sport giveaway, you must donate during that hour to be entered to win. You are able to give multiple gifts throughout Hoos Giving, but your name will only count once in the overall Hoos Giving total donor count. It is also important to note that during a particular team’s celebration hour, a gift to ANY sport in that time frame will enter you in a chance to win! 

What if I want to mail in my gift?

You may absolutely mail in your gift. For your gift to count toward Hoos Giving, it must be received in the mail at the VAF office by 12:00 p.m. on May 18. You may mail your gift any time before then and will be counted towards the Hoos Giving total tally.

What if I want to give to more than one sport? More than two sports?

GiveCampus, our giving platform, allows you to split each gift you make between two teams, but not more than two in one transaction. To give to more than two specific teams, you are able to give multiple gifts through multiple transactions. Unrestricted gifts are another great way to give to the Virginia Athletics Foundation to programs with the most need.

How will my gift be used?

Donors who wish to support a specific sport have the option to designate their gift to that team’s Friends Of program. The Friends Of program serves as a critical component in meeting the operational budget needs as well as scholarship costs for specific sports within the athletics department. As revenue producing sports, football and men’s basketball do not have Friends Of programs.

Unrestricted gifts donated to the Annual Fund will be used to support scholarship needs, academic affairs support, and supplement operational budgets for all 27 varsity programs where it is most needed.
